Food-tour company Dishcrawl’s gambit is simple: they pick a neighborhood, you sign on for a progressive meal at surprise locations, all within walking distance.
So we headed out for a tour of Olde Worthington in October, which started at The Worthington Inn and moved to the Old Bag of Nails, Dewey’s Pizza and Graeter’s (plus a cupcake nightcap from bakery stalwart Mrs. Goodman’s).
As food tours go, if you’re looking for deep-cut dining secrets and specialized food knowledge, Dishcrawl is not where you’ll find it. Instead, Dishcrawl gives you insight on how to dine better at familiar places, with chefs and longtime staffers coming out to introduce their restaurants and talk about the food they’ve prepared.
A trip to Old Bag of Nails, which could have been entirely unremarkable, yielded one of the night’s best surprises, a sample of white-wine steamed mussels swimming in a rich, buttery broth—easy to overlook on a menu crowded with pub-grub standards. Plus, thanks to enthusiastic hostess Kelly Galindo and communal seating for the upwards of 20 diners on the tour, a regular night out becomes a bouncy, boisterous affair.
