If you’ve ever wished you could chase down the lunch or dinner you picked up at the North Market with a cold beer or glass of wine, today’s your lucky day. The Barrel and Bottle—the craft beer and wine shop inside the North Market—announced that they are expanding their current space to add a bar and communal seating. The three-year-old merchant will add an additional 511 square feet by taking over Holy Smoke’s current footprint next door (the barbecue stand will relocate to an open space inside the market).
Co-owners Collin Castore and Jen Burton are excited to expand their product selection, including the cocktail section, which features items like bitters, Aperol and specialty vermouths that have become huge sellers for the specialty shop. Also on the future agenda are educational events, as well as beer and wine tastings.
All changes are scheduled to be complete by January 2014. With the announcement of this expansion, that leaves two vacant vendor spots yet to be filled. North Market executive director Rick Harrison Wolfe has said these will most likely be new startups offering prepared foods or bakery like items. —Beth Stallings
