Drink of the week: Kentucky Spritz at Till Dynamic Fare

By

Posted on:

More than anything else, I am a bourbon drinker. That’s not to say I can’t appreciate a good scotch or a nice tequila, but there’s something about bourbon’s caramel and oak flavor that gets me.

So it’s no surprise then that the drink that caught my attention recently was a bourbon-based star at Till. The Kentucky Spritz ($9) is simple—just Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Aperol and ginger beer. I love cocktails this simple because, just as in cooking, there’s nothing to hide behind. One small measurement off, and the whole taste is thrown askew. What makes this cocktail memorable is the house-made ginger beer that’s got plenty of ginger flavor, but none of the bite other homemade versions tend to have. The result is a smooth, fruity and warm sipper—a great fall transition.

The Perfect Manhattan ($8) is another winner. It’s got the bold start of this classic cocktail with James E. Pepper 1776 Rye and house-made bitters, but none of the sometimes harsh finish. I attribute this to the dual vermouths at work—a combo of dark Cocchi di Torino and lighter Dolin Blanc.

Even if you’re not a bourbon drinker, there’s something fun to sip off the tight, thoughtfully crafted cocktail list at Till.

If you’re headed there tonight, be ready for an offal good time. The restaurant hosts Butcher—a night of good drinks, dishes featuring offal and a dance party. Keep an eye on Till’s Facebook page for a menu update.
